First, here’s the theatrical trailer for “Fast and Furious 6”.

Now for the big news. For the seventh film, and there will be a seventh film, Jason Statham is rumored to play the older brother of the sixth film’s baddie (Luke Evans). Statham was rumored to be up for the villain in this film. I really hope he joins. This one stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Elsa Pataky and are joined by series newcomers Luke Evans and Gina Carano.

We had a bunch of heavy hitters air TV spots. From “Oz The Great and Powerful” to “Iron Man 3”, this year’s potential blockbusters were out in full force. And while they had varying degrees of success, the one that got me the most excited might surprise you. No, it wasn’t “The Lone Ranger”, that still is a tough sell for me. It was “Fast and the Furious Six”. The action looks ridiculous. The plot looks like it’s straight out of a soap opera. And yet, that over the top action, the humor and just fun tone that made “Fast Five” my favorite action film in 2010, is making “Fast and Furious 6” one of my most anticipated movies of the year. And that’s not a joke. Director Justin Lin has figured out that this series works best as pretty much a live-action cartoon. And you know what? That’s fine by me. Because “Fast Five” was so much fun. And “Fast and the Furious Six” looks to deliver more of the same. As soon as the scene with the exploding plane hit the screens, it sold me on it. Realistic? Obviously not. A whole hell of a lot of fun? Hell yes. With Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson giving the series two stars (Sorry Paul Walker), this film looks like it’s one summer movies were made for.

What was your favorite?

So far, details have been scarce about “Fast Six”. Now here’s the official plot synopsis and check out its Super Bowl commercial this Sunday!

Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of all-stars as the global blockbuster franchise built on speed races to its next continent in Fast & Furious 6.  Reuniting for their most high-stakes adventure yet, fan favorites Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Elsa Pataky are joined by badass series newcomers Luke Evans and Gina Carano.

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe.  But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez).  The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London.  Payment?  Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

The anticipated sequel hits theaters later this year.

While I’ll be watching the San Francisco 49ers take on the Baltimore Ravens because of Colin Kaepernick, a player I covered in college, an added bonus is glimpses of a few of the year’s biggest blockbusters. Here’s a list (so far) of the films that will air teasers during the big game:

“Oz The Great and Powerful”

“Star Trek: Into Darkness”

“Fast Six”

“Iron Man 3”

“Oblivion”

“The Lone Ranger”.

Of this list, I think “Fast Six” and “Oz” have the most to prove to me. I’m a big fan of “Fast Five”, but I’m wary of the serious continuing. As for “Oz”, it just looks a little bit like background from “Alice in Wonderland” and just doesn’t excite me right now. Those two films in particular need to make a big impact for me to get excited about them.

With this summer winding down, it’s never too early to think about next summer’s blockbusters!

Next summer has three big comic book films: “Iron Man 3” starring Robert Downey Jr., “Man of Steel” from director Zack Snyder and “300: Battle of Artemesia”. My guess is IM3 will be the best. I’m actually not that excited  for the “300” prequel. I don’t think they’ll catch lightning in a bottle twice.

You also have more sequels in “Star Trek 2”, “Kick-Ass 2” and “Fast Six”. I am really looking forward to “Kick-Ass 2” and “Fast Six”. The previous entry in both serious were wildly entertaining and a lot of fun to watch. I did like “Star Trek” but just wonder if I’m not a big enough Trek fan to enjoy them fully.

Then there’s “World War Z”. I’m not going to say any more.

Finally, there will be a big animated showdown between “Monsters University” and “Despicable Me 2” bringing another installment to one of each studio’s most beloved films. Of course there’s a lot more than just this, but these are the early ones I’m watching for.

Luke Evans (“Clash of the Titans”, “Immortals”) has been offered the villain role in “Fast Six”, the one originally offered to Jason Statham. Evans will be seen in the upcoming “Hobbit” films.

Obviously, director Justin Lin is looking for the international aspect here. The film also sees Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez return.  I’ll say this. I didn’t realize Statham’s character was going to be the villain. Makes me wish even more he had signed on.

In some of the worst movie news of the day, with “Fast Six” getting ready to film, Jason Statham (The Transporter)  has reportedly said no to joining the film. The two sides could not reach an agreement apparently. That’s a shame. Because Statham, Vin Diesel and the Rock in the same action film? And the chance that they fight each other? Much more enticing than his other all-star action series “The Expendables”.
