Joss Whedon has stepped in for Zack Snyder as the director of “Justice League.” Not only is he reportedly making the movie lighter in tone, but he may be changing the ending.

Potential spoilers are ahead.

According to /Film, the movie has been altered to focus on Steppenwolf as the main threat. Reportedly, before Steppenwolf was more like the Silver Surfer, heralding the coming of Darkseid.

Justice League stars Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ben Affleck (Batman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ezra Miller (the Flash), Ray Fisher (Cyborg) and a host of others.

Probably not a big surprise. Frank Miller helped Zack Snyder on “300”, but news comes that Miller and Snyder are meeting to discuss the upcoming Batman and Superman film. Word is that it is a sequel to “Man of Steel” and that Bruce Wayne/Batman will be a supporting player to Clark Kent. Henry Cavill is returning as is Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, so that makes sense. Just one pesky question remains…just who will play Batman?

Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” has hit a divide. Critics didn’t love it, but audiences have flocked to it.  Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and more, some of the best scenes were on Krypton at the beginning of the film. Now Russell Crowe said he’d be up for returning the role as Jor-El for a Krypton prequel!

Would you like to see the relationship between Jor-El and Zod played out more?

Unfilmable has been thrown around a lot lately to things like “Watchmen”, “Life of Pi” and “Cloud Atlas”. That didn’t stop Zack Snyder, Ang Lee and the Wachowskis from making adaptations, however. Add James Franco to that list, who will be directing an adaptation of William Faulkner’s “The Sound and the Fury”. He wants Jon Hamm to star as Mr. Compson, Dave Franco to play Quentin Compson and wants Danny McBride in the film as well. Considering Franco’s recent films, which include everything from playing himself in “This is the End” to Oz in “Oz the Great and Powerful” to a thug in “Spring Breakers” why not tackle a classic novel?

Bale shoots down rumors

Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” started up talk about a “Justice League” film. If it does happen, Christian Bale, who played Bruce Wayne/Batman in Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy said he won’t be back.

”I have no information, no knowledge about anything,” he told EW.  “I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it. It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”

They could go with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, however.

Much like “Watchmen”, Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” is turing out to be a polarizing film. Critics didn’t care for it, fans seemed to like it. Count “Chronicle” Max Landis in the hate it camp. Here’s what he had to say about the film.

These are some harsh words. Here’s an excerpt:

“What’s special about Superman, is that his parents didn’t f*cking die. He’s not a selfish, post-traumatic sissy who needed to have his parents shot to death in front of him to understand that maybe you should help people and that crime is wrong and murder is bad. His Uncle Ben didn’t need to be killed in front of him basically by his own hand to drive the point home that if you have superpowers you should use them to help people…

He’s just a guy from Kansas who has the best superpowers. And instead of absolute power corrupting absolutely, it has absolved him from fear, and greed, and hate, and all of the weaknesses that stem from human insecurity. What’s special about Superman is that he will always make the right choice.”

It was a good weekend for Disney/Pixar and Brad Pitt. “Monsters University”, which features the voices of Billy Crystal and John Goodman, topped the box office with $82 million, for the studio’s biggest opening since “Toy Story 3”. Marc Forster’s zombie film “World War Z” starring Brad Pitt shattered expectations, earning $66 million to take second while Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” tumbled to take $41.2 million in its second weekend.

This seems a bit quick, but “Fast and Furious 6” directed by Justin Lin is seeing its sequel, “Fast and Furious 7” from James Wan being released next year. Reports are that Warner Brothers wants a “Man of Steel” sequel, which has earned $125.1 million already, to come out in 2014 with a “Justice League” film to follow in 2015. It makes a little bit of sense because WB has slated a 2015 release for a JLA film for a while now. But that’s not much time for Zack Snyder and writer David Goyer to prep a script and get everything done in time.

Warner Brothers is probably celebrating today. Director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan teamed up for a new Superman film “Man of Steel”. And audiences turned out in droves, earning $113.1 million and $125.1 million if you include the Thursday night shows. Both numbers top the previous June record of $110 million set by “Toy Story 3”. The film now has earned more than double of “Superman Returns” total domestic take of $200.1 million already.

“This is the End”, the comedy starring Seth Rogen, James Franco and a host of others earned $32.8 million since opening on Wednesday.
