Tag Archive: The Lizard

Not Venom, But, we already know Jamie Foxx is playing Electro in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”. And that Paul Giamatti is playing Rhino. Of course Andrew Garfield is back as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone is back as Gwen. Now comes some big news. Chris Cooper is playing Norman Osborn in the film! Yep we will finally see Oscorp’s dying boss in the sequel directed once again by Marc Webb. Hm. So that would make three villains in this film. That’s half way to setting up a sinister six…Add in that locker that liked a lot like the one from the comics that contained the goo that turned people into Venom and that’s four. The Lizard would make five…

Warning: Spoilers

Ok. So, at the end of Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider-Man”, Dr. Connors/The Lizard is sitting in his cell when a mysterious figure seems to transport into his cell asking if he told Peter Parker about his father (part of the scene is in the trailer). The man then disappears. Actor Rhys Ifans told comicbookmovie.com this about the scene: “Connors is sent to an asylum, a high-security asylum, as you would be if you threw police towers across the Brooklyn Bridge. And he’s visited by, shall we say, a representative from Oscorp. How he gets into that cell and how he leaves that cell without the guards knowing? We have yet to find out.”

Webb said the figure may not be the main villain in the next film, but will play a role.

The most common theory is that it is Norman Osborn. That would make sense…except in a different interview, Ifans said that it was not, in fact Osborn, but someone affiliated with the company. He also said it is someone fans should be familiar with. There are theories that it is Richard Parker, Mysterio (I really hope it’s not), Chameleon (I really, really hope it’s not) to the Green Goblin and almost everything in between, even Electro.

Frankly, this is one of the worst teaser scenes ever. The best ones should leave people guessing, but have clues. There are no tangible clues here. Osborn makes the most sense. The Green Goblin is Spidey’s arch enemy, much like the Joker is to Batman, but if he’s not going to be the main villain, that doesn’t make sense obviously. Who knows? As a side note: I really hope they introduce Eddie Brock in the sequel. Give Venom a proper set up. But, who do you guys think the figure is?

Ok, let me preface this by saying, I’m excited for “The Amazing Spider-Man”. T he trailers look good, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are fine young talents and director Marc Webb was an interesting choice (and not just because of his name). Still, I get the sneaking suspicion that I’m going to come out of the film feeling…well…like I’ve seen this before.

I know, this version at least looks to have a different tone. And, they are playing up Peter Parkers’ parents a lot more. And Curt Connors/The Lizard is a villain we haven’t seen before. However, this is an origin story after all. And, there’s only so much you can do when a hero’s origin is being bitten by  spider. I don’t want to be bogged down in the first part of the film seeing Peter discover his powers again, use it on a school bully again, seeing Uncle Ben die again. I don’t see why Spider-Man can’t be like the James Bond series, have different actors step into the roles. I would have rather seen that than starting from scratch all over again. The Bond series proves you can have vastly different tones and have it work. Instead, we have to deal with the origin story once more. And, frankly, it means we’re going to see villains probably rehashed in future films like the Green Goblin.

In a comic book movie world where the stakes are being continually raised by “The Avengers” and “The Dark Knight” and (presumably) “The Dark Knight Rises”, we shouldn’t be rehashing the same old story again. Spidey has  the potential to have great power and be a great film. Unfortunately, I’m not sure it’s handled that responsibility.

Here are two videos featuring Dr. Curt Connors (The Lizard) from “The Amazing Spider-Man”. The videos are the result of a viral marketing campaign.

The film, directed by Marc Webb, stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans as Connors.

Here is the first official still of the Lizard/Dr. Curt Connors from “The Amazing Spider-Man”. Effects look great. You know, while I still don’t see the reason for the reboot, director Marc Webb’s got me interested in this one.

The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan and Martin Sheen.

It should come as no shock that director Marc Webb’s “Amazing Spider-Man” is supposed to start a new series. We know that Dr. Connors/The Lizard is the villain in the first one. But, will it leave clues for subsequent films? Webb told CinemaBlend that:

“The movie is conceived first and foremost to work as its own entity but there are certain things like… the story of his parents that emotionally and narratively are the long shadow that’s cast over his life. Certainly there are hints to deeper stories but, you know, we’ve got to finish this before we can get to that so it was important that it function on its own.”

The question is who might it be? I’m going to go ahead and throw out some names. With Oscorp in the mix again, one has to imagine Green Goblin would be a candidate. Also, with the Venom spin off, supposedly ready to launch, maybe he’d appear in a sequel? The big question is will they go with new villains? In that case someone like the Vulture, Scorpion, Carnage, Electro or Mysterio could make sense. But, if the film is grounded in reality, it might be hard to make some of those villains fit. Dr. Octopus is always a fan favorite, but again, we just saw him a few years ago in the old series.

Who would you want to see in a potential sequel?

Here is the newest trailer for “The Amazing Spider-Man”.

The reboot stars Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) and Emma Stone (Easy A) and has the Lizard as the villain. Looks better to me,  except can’t they keep the mask on for one movie?
