“Warm Bodies” and “Bullet To The Head” take on the Super Bowl. Will either be successful?

“Warm Bodies” will take the weekend. It’s had a strong marketing campaign that’s portraying this as a funny, unique take on the zombie film. The film features rising stars Nicholas Hoult (“X-Men: First Class”) and Teresa Palmer (“I Am Number Four”) as well as John Malkovich and Rob Corddry. I think the film won’t have the broad appeal that would allow it to really break out, but an opening near $20 million is well within reach.

Opening weekend: $18-20 million

After Arnold’s “The Last Stand” and Jason Statham’s “Parker” bombed, Sylvester Stallone takes his turn with “Bullet To The Head”. Looks like another generic action film. Not to mention it’ll be  incredibly front loaded as its target audience will be watching the 49ers and Ravens on Sunday.

Opening weekend: $7-9 million

Former Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick could be the one who benefits the most from the recent quarterback events with the San Francisco 49ers.

Here’s a good blog post about Kap and how he’s ready to step into the starting role when called upon. I’m sure all the Nevada fans would love to see Kaepernick start this season. Head coach Jim Harbaugh is undeniably good at developing quarterbacks. And, Kap sitting a year will do him some good. This is a team with a great defense and numerous weapons on offense, including Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Mario Manningham, Michael Crabtree and Randy Moss.

Colin’s ready that’s for sure. He’s got the right mentality. There might be a few growing pains early on, but remember Big Ben won a Super Bowl in his second year.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Peyton Manning wants to go into negotiations with the Denver Broncos. The Broncos are reportedly going to try and trade Tim Tebow.

I think Manning is making a mistake here. I think San Francisco would have been a much  better fit. The Niners are already close to being a Super Bowl team. Put Manning on that roster with Wayne, Frank Gore and that defense? I shudder to think how good they could be. Thankfully, Manning’s going to the Broncos. Denver’s a lot farther off from being a Super Bowl team than San Fran. Can you even name any of their receivers?

Randy Moss is now a San Francisco 49er. I suppose it makes sense. They’ve already had one of the most dysfunctional receivers in Terrell Owens so why not Moss right?

Because, as he drifted from team to team and caught just 28 passes in 2010, the last time he played. Assuming they resign Alex Smith, it would give Smith a potential home run target and take the pressure off Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis. Still, that’s what they said about Braylon Edwards, and I feel more comfortable with Edwards than I would with Moss.

Former Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick and presumed starter Alex Smith struggled against the Houston Texans in the San Francisco 49ers’ third preseason game. Kaepernick, who played with the starting offense for some series, threw for 52 yards, no touchdowns and one pick as he completed six of 16 passes. Smith completed two of six passes for 17 yards and one interception.

Obviously the 49ers have some major issues, but I was hoping for a better performance from Kaepernick. Still, I think him sitting this season will be beneficial.

The Seattle Seahawks have cut former Nevada running back Vai Taua. Taua was also released by the Buffalo Bills.

This isn’t too big of a surprise as the Seahawks were pretty set at running back. It’s still sad to see a Wolf Pack player cut though. It seems with Dontay Moch’s broken foot and Colin Kaepernick likely playing at least behind Alex Smith for the 49ers the Wolf Pack draft class doesn’t look like it’ll be making an impact, at least not in 2011.

Former Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick completed 6-of-8 passes for 52 yards as the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Oakland Raiders 17-3 in the team’s second preseason game. Alex Smith, the projected started for the team completed 8-of-12 passes for 126 yards and one interception. Neither quarterback threw a touchdown, but Kaepernick was sacked twice during the game.

The battle for the No. 2 quarterback spot just got more interesting for the San Francisco 49ers. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has hinted that Alex Smith is the favorite to be the starter. Now the team signed Josh McCown, who is expected to challenge Colin Kaepernick for the second spot on the depth chart.

Which brings up the question. If Smith got hurt this season, would you want to see Kaepernick put in or McCown and let Kaepernick continue to sit? I, for one, don’t have a problem with this move. If the first preseason game is any indication, the 49ers offensive line will be one of the worst in the league. And a bad offensive line where a QB could be hit all the time could stunt or even permanently damage Kaepernick’s growth. Better to let him sit a year and give them a chance to maybe sure up the position next year.

An article in the Sacramento Bee said 49ers quarterback Alex Smith is gaining separation from Colin Kaepernick. That’s probably to be expected since Smith is a veteran. And, the news might be a good thing for the former Nevada QB. Based on the team’s offensive line play in the first preseason game, I’m not sure we’d want to see Kaepernick get killed out there anyways.

San Francisco will is bringing in former Vikings and Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper for a tryout today. Culpepper joins Alex Smith and former Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick with the 49ers if he makes the team. Both Smith and Kaepernick seemed to struggle in the team’s preseason opener, but that probably had more to do with terrible offensive line play.
