Uh oh. “A Prophet”, the French crime film from 2009 is one of the best crime movies I’ve ever seen. Starring Tahar Rahim, the film is is simply amazing. Now Hollywood is remaking it. It gets worse. Neal Moritz is producing. Yes, the same producer who brought us “Total Recall”, “Fast and Furious 6”, “Jack the Giant Slayer” and more. Look, I enjoyed some of those films, but they were mindless action films, something “A Prophet” most definitely isn’t. No word on any directors or actors, but let’s hope Moritz pulls a rabbit out of his hat and gets someone really good to helm the project.

Since playing the Comedian in Zack Snyder’s underrated “Watchmen”, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has struggled. There was the underrated “The Losers” followed by bad films like “The Possession” and “Red Dawn”. Now he is set to get back on track by joining the film “Solace”. The film also stars Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell.

From FirstShowing.net: Hopkins will be starring as a former doctor with psychic abilities who’s recruited by a veteran FBI agent (Morgan) to track down a serial killer (Farrell). The trouble arises when the specialist realizes that the killer also has psychic abilities, meaning the two men can detect the other’s next move.

This has some potential. Hopefully it won’t quite be like “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”.

Dueling Mummy scripts coming

Stephen Sommers’ “The Mummy”, which starred Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz spawned two sequels and allowed Sommers to make the misguided “Van Helsing”. Since then, Universal announced it was rebooting “The Mummy” with Len Wiseman (“Total Recall”) at the helm and John Spaihts (“Prometheus”) writing the script. Now comes report that “The Hunger Games” writer Billy Ray will also write a script for the film. The thought is that the two scripts will be combined.

Don’t get too excited, however. Syfy is in talks to develop a four-hour miniseries adaptation of “The Man in the High Castle”. Set in 1962, the story centers around an alternate history where Germany and Japan emerged victorious from WWII. Philip K. Dick wrote the story. Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions will produce the project with Headline Pictures, Electric Shepherd Productions and FremantleMedia International. Frank Spotnitz (“The X-Files”) will serve as writer. Dick’s novels that have been adapted into several projects including “Total Recall”, “Blade Runner”, “Minority Report” and “The Adjustment Bureau”.

Colin Farrell has joined Anthony Hopkins in the upcoming thriller “Solace”. The film, directed by Afonso Poyart centers around a doctor who is enlisted by the police to help catch a serial killer. Peter Morgan did rewrites on the script.

After “Seven Psychopaths” and the fun “Total Recall” remake, I’m pretty high on Farrell right now.

“Total Recall” director Paul Verhoeven said he would be open to directing the planned Conan film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“If they asked me, I’d certainly love to — let’s put it that way,” Verhoeven said in an interview with Moviehole. “But I don’t know what the script is. I don’t know what Arnold wants. I’m a big fan in fact of Conan. That’s a great movie and I found that the composer, Basil Poledouris, basically inspired many of my movies [the soundtracks] like Flesh and Blood, RoboCop, Starship Troopers and Total Recall. The score of Conan is great. The style of editing that Milius used was very beautiful, and Arnold does a great job. He was really the perfect choice.”

Meanwhile, Fredrik Malmberg, a producer on the film, titled “Legend of Conan” said Peter Jackson would be one of his top picks.

Producer Adi Shankar has cast the first actress in what he describes as the female version of “The Expendables”. Gina Carano, who starred in Steven Soderbergh’s “Haywire” earlier this year has been cast in the film. She will also star along side Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and Paul Walker in “Fast and Furious 6”.

No other names have been announced. But, one has to imagine Jennifer Lawrence (“The Hunger Games”), Milla Jovovich (“Resident Evil”) and Kate Beckinsale (“Total Recall”) have to be at the top of their lists. You’d also have to include Zoe Saldana if I was in charge of the film.

Len Wiseman (“Underworld”) already has one remake under his belt with this summer’s “Total Recall”, starring Colin Farrell. Now, reports are that Wiseman is up for consideration to reboot “The Mummy”, which was directed by Stephen Sommers in 1999.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will produce the film and said in a recent interview it is a horror film first and an action film second. Kurtzman said they drew inspiration from Michael Chrichton books.

This looks like a pretty big change of pace from the 1999 version which was very light hearted. One can guess that Kate Beckinsale will be involved in some capacity.

I’m back. My apologies as I was attending a wedding over the weekend. Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” continues to do big business, earning $35.7 million over the weekend, raising its domestic total to $353.9 million so far. “Total Recall” starring Collin Farell, Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Beals disappointed with about $25 million.

Here’s the latest trailer for “Total Recall”, directed by Len Wiseman and starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston, Bill Nighy, Jessica Biel, Ethan Hawke and John Cho.

It looks very action packed and like a fun ride.
