Riz Ahmed “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” has joined the “Venom” film in an undisclosed role.

The film will take place in the same world as Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” but will not be connected to the MCU.

Tom Hardy (“Dunkirk”) has already signed on to the film. Ruben Fleischer (“Zombieland”) will direct.

We’ve officially hit July, which means the summer movie season is half over! What movies are the best of the best?

Quick note: I haven’t seen every single film to be released and am sorely lacking in the independent films, but oh well.

1. Inside Out: Pixar’s return to form. This is an emotional roller coaster that is every bit as good as the studio’s best efforts. The voice cast, headlined by Amy Poehler, is spot on. And one character not featured in any of the trailers absolutely steals the show. This film is more for adults than it is kids. But it’s absolutely worth seeing and is the best blockbuster film of the summer by far.

2. Mad Max: Fury Road: Maybe the biggest surprise of the summer, Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy help make Mad Max’s return to the big screen an amazing trip. It’s thrilling and beautiful to look at. There’s a shocking amount of narrative heft to it, despite limited dialogue. Director George Miller proves he still knows how to craft a unique and amazingly entertaining action film.

3. Spy: It’s easy to write this Melissa McCarthy vehicle as the same as all the films she’s done. That would be a mistake. This hilarious spy comedy is spot on, with comedy gold performances from Jason Statham and Rose Byrne to boot.

Biggest disappointment: Avengers: Age of Ultron: Look, this film had its entertaining moments. But it was essentially the same as the first Avengers right down to the teaser scene at the end. For maybe the first time since Marvel Studio’s cinematic universe began, this film felt more like a chore to get through than a joy.

We already saw WB do this for the “Harry Potter” series. Now get ready for the ultimate collector’s edition of the “Dark Knight” trilogy. It’s six discs with the three movies and its existing content plus:

  • The Fire Rises: The Creation and Impact of The Dark Knight Trilogy: The inside perspective on the fascinating story behind the creation of one of the most celebrated franchises and how it changed the scope of movie making… forever. Full of never-before-seen footage, rare moments, and exclusive interviews with Guillermo Del Toro, Damon Lindelof, Michael Mann, Richard Roeper, Zack Snyder and others.
  • Christopher Nolan & Richard Donner: A Conversation: For the first time, Directors Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy) and Richard Donner (Superman) sit down to discuss the trials and triumphs involved in bringing the two most iconic superheroes of all time to the big screen, and how Superman influenced Nolan when developing Batman Begins.
  • IMAX Sequences: The Dark Knight; The Dark Knight Rises: See your favorite scenes as they were intended in the original IMAX aspect ratio.
  • Premium Mattel Hot Wheels Vehicles: Batmobile, Batpod and Tumbler
  • Newly commissioned collectible art cards by Mondo featuring Scarecrow, Joker, Bane, Harvey Dent, and Ra’s al Ghul
  • 48-page hardcover book featuring production stills and behind the scenes images from all three movies.

The series stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Heath Ledger and many more.

“Child 44” is getting a top notch cast. Tom Hardy (“The Dark Knight Rises”) and Noomi Rapace were already set to star in the film. Now Philip Seymour Hoffman (“The Master”) is joining the film. Daniel Espinosa (“Safe House”) is directing. Gary Oldman is also in the film.

Bane is “The Outsider”

Tom Hardy, best known for his roles in Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Rises”, is taking a lead role. Now Bane will play the lead in”The Outsider”, about an American G.I. who becomes a member of the notorious Japanese Yakuza. Joel Silver (“The Matrix”) is producing and the film will be directed by Takashi Miike. Miike will be directing his first English language film after directing films like “Audition” and “13 Assassins”.

This isn’t confirmed. But the Elton John biopic”Rocketman” may have its lead. And it’s none other than Bane himself. Tom Hardy is reportedly being considered for the role for the film from Michael Gracey. It would certainly be an interesting choice. And to be fair, I’d rather see Hardy take risks on projects and avoid Gerard Butler’s crap chick flicks and second rate action flicks he’s done after “300”.

Sylvester Stallone is giving an update on’ The Expendables 3″, saying he’s writing the script now. He says there will be “new blood” ages 22-27 and some women who aren’t sex symbols, but “real”. No surprise he’s working on the script. Stallone, Arnold, Jason Statham and Bruce Willis all bombed this year with “Bullet to the Head”, “The Last Stand”, “Parker” and “A Good Day to Die Hard”. Jackie Chan is in talks to join the cast.

Who should some of the new blood be? I realize these actors aren’t in their 20s, but I’d probably say Vin Diesel, Mark Wahlberg, Jeremy Renner, Gina Carano, Michelle Rodriguez and maybe someone like a Tom Hardy or (this would be ironic) Chris Hemsworth.

Christian Bale and Tom Hardy faced each other as Batman and Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises”. Now the two are set to star in separate Mt. Everest films. Bale is in talks to join a film based on books, interviews and more about the 1996 storm that struck as three teams attempted to climb the famous mountain. “Into Thin Air” was the most famous book to come from that incident. Hardy is in talks to star as George Mallory, who attempted to climb Mt. Everest in the 20s three times before dying on his final descent. Bale’s film is set to be directed by  Baltasar Kormakur, who helmed “Contraband” while the latter film is set to be directed by Doug Liman.

First, it was news that Michael Fassbender is starring in “Assassin’s Creed”. Then, it was that Tom Hardy will star in “Splinter Cell”. Not to be outdone, “Deus Ex: Human Revolution” announced it will director Scott Derrickson (“Sinister”) direct and co-write. No actors have been named, however.

“Splinter Cell” is headed to theaters. And Tom Hardy (Bane from TDKR) is set to play Sam Fisher. Eric Singer (“The International”) is writing the script. No director has been chosen. That does bring up an interesting question. Are you more excited to see Hardy in “Splinter Cell” or Michael Fassbender in “Assassin’s Creed”.
