Paul Thomas Anderson’s (“The Master) next film is shaping up. “Inherent Vice”, an adaptation of the novel wit the same name already stars Joaquin Phoenix, Benicio Del Toro and Owen Wilson. Now Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone (“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”) and Martin Short have joined the cast. This is quickly turning out to look like one of the most intriguing casts I’ve seen put together in a little while.

Here it is! The teaser trailer for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, which seems pretty long for a teaser trailer. But that’s a good thing!

The film sees Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) and Liam Hemsworth (Gale) return to the three lead roles. The film also stars Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Woody Harrelson, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amanda Plummer, Lynn Cohen, Patrick St. Esprit, Meta Golding, Bruno Gunn, Alan Ritchson, E. Roger Mitchell, Maria Howell, Stephanie Leigh Schlund, Sam Claflin and Jeffrey Wright.

So much for being different Sony. Last week, Dane DeHaan, Alden Ehrenreich and Brady Corbert were up for the role of Harry Osborn in Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”. Now, it appears all three of those actors are out and they’re going for the more conventional movie star look with Sam Claflin (“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”), Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth and Boyd Holbrook.

I’d bet on Redmayne because he’s very close to Andrew Garfield’s age. But, don’t count out Claflin because he seems to be a rising star right now.

More reports are coming out. Michael Arndt (“Toy Story 3”, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”) is apparently writing the script for “Star Wars Episode VII”. Now, reports are that the script features  Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo and that Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are very likely to return to their roles.

This is certainly good news. Michael Arndt is penning “Star Wars Episode VII”. Arndt is the Oscar-winning writer behind “Toy Story 3”, “Little Miss Sunshine” and the upcoming “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”. Arndt wrote a treatment which is about to be shown to some directors, and if this list is right, the names are very enticing. J.J. Abrams, Steven Spielberg and Brad Bird are reportedly on the list. There are also reports Christopher  Nolan has been approached and there were those reports that Matthew Vaughn left the “X-Men First Class” sequel for this film.

Out of this short list, it’s very exciting. I have to be honest, I don’t want Spielberg. And, Abrams has “Star Trek”. I’m pulling for Bird. He wowed me with “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” and I think he can do a great job.

Not to be out done and even though “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” has yet to finish production, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay” has its director for both parts. Danny Strong from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” has signed on to script the two-part finale.

Francis Lawrence is directing “Catching Fire”. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth star.

Jeffrey Wright (“Casino Royale”) has been cast as Beetee in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”. There’s been so much casting news about the film, but Wright’s character is an important one. He’s a solid character actor and should make the cast even better. He joins of course Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Liam Hemsworth as Gale, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, Lenny Kravitz as Cinna and Stanley Tucci as Caeser. They’re joined by newcomers Jenna Malone as Johanna Mason, Sam Claflin as Finnick, Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch and more. The script is being written by Simon Beaufoy (“Slumdog Millionaire”) and Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend”, “Constantine”) is directing. Let’s just say if they mess the sequel up, it’s a HUGE waste of talent.

More “Hunger Games” news

Ok, so Amanda Plummer has joined as Wiress. But that’s not all, not even close. Reports say that Lionsgate and Suzanne Collins are looking for new directors for the final two parts of the series (“Mockingjay is being split into two a la “Harry Potter”). The thinking is that Francis Lawrence will be too busy finishing “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” to prep for the third and fourth films. Gary Ross directed the first, so it’s possible we could see four different directors take each film.

Also, reports are that Sam Claflin (“Snow White and the Huntsman”) has nabbed the role of Finnick Odair, beating out Armie Hammer (“Mirror, Mirror”, “The Social Network”), Garrett Hedlund (“Tron: Legacy”), Lucas Till (“X-Men: First Class”) and Trevor Donovan (“90210”).

Whew. But wait, there’s one more piece of news. Variety is reporting that the frontrunners to play Mags and Beetee are…Melissa Leo and Tony Shaloub.

If all these reports prove to be true, Plummer, Claflin, Leo and Shaloub would join a cast that already includes Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Donald Sutherland, Lenny Kravitz, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Jenna Malone, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci.
