I know, the summer movie season is still a ways a way. But we’re getting closer. And Memorial Day weekend has one of the summer’s biggest showdowns. “The Hangover Part III”, “Fast and Furious 6” and “Epic” all hit theaters looking to make a killing at the box office. Which one will come away the big winner?

Todd Phillips’ “The Hangover Part III” has some work to do. The second film set a Memorial Day weekend record with $103 million over the four days, but then dropped more than 60 percent thanks to terrible word of mouth. There’s finally a (somewhat) new premise and everyone is coming back from Heather Graham to Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis. And the reportedly final film in the series, posters poking fun of some of the other hit franchises, and this one should bring in a decent amount of business its opening weekend. But it’ll be a far cry from the second film’s opening. That’s because “Fast and Furious 6” is gunning for the same young male audience. It’s rare for a franchise to be hitting the sixth film but have a unique possibility of being the highest grossing film in the franchise. But that’s where the sixth film is. “Fast Five” earned $86 million its opening weekend on its way to more than $200 million domestically. It was also a significant hit overseas. And, unlike “The Hangover Part II”, the film had critical acclaim and was a very big crowd pleaser. Now Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson and the rest of the crew are back along with the return of Michelle Rodriguez. With a more accessible PG-13 rating, look for this to be able to make a run at “The Hangover Part II’s” Memorial Day weekend mark.

The wild card is of course “Epic”. I’m intrigued by this film. The question will be is this a new animated classic, or a cut below Pixar quality. But it’ll draw in the family crowd, being the first big family film of the summer. Families are just as likely to be going camping or other outdoor activities, however, so this one might have great legs, but have a lower opening weekend. Still, if reviews are good for this one, this could be the film to beat over the holiday weekend.

Predictions for four-day weekend totals:

Fast and Furious 6: $100-110 million

The Hangover Part III: $75-85 million

Epic: $65-75 million

Todd Phillips has made his career with films like “The Hangover”, “Old School” and “Due Date”. In fact, “The Hangover Part III” should be another box office smash for Phillips. His next film may be very different in tone. WB has tapped Phillips to d irect and produce “Trust Your Eyes”, a thriller based on the novel of the same name. Similar to “Rear Window” and “Disturbia”, the main character witnesses what he believes to be a murder.

No casting has been announced. The film should be interesting if for no other reason to see if Phillips is more than a one-trick director.

One thing missing from “The Hangover” movies has been a strong female presence. Now, director Todd Phillips is looking to change that. Melissa McCarthy (“Bridesmaids”) has joined the cast for a smaller role. We know she can do this kind of humor in “Bridesmaids” so I’m actually looking forward to seeing her in the film. Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis return for the reportedly final installment in the series.

WB has released a very short plot description for director Todd Phillip’s “The Hangover: Part III”: This time, there’s no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.

We do know that Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha are back, they will at least stop in Las Vegas and several characters are also returning. Gillian Vigman, Sasha Barrese and Jamie Chung return as the Wolf Pack’s wives, Ken Jeong and Heather Graham also reprise their roles. John Goodman joins the cast as a new character.

Proving once again Todd Phillip’s “The Hangover Part III” looks like another rehash, Heather Graham is returning as Jade, the stripper Stu (Ed Helms) married in the first film. Mike Epps (Doug) and Ken Jeong as well as Mike Tyson, Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis are also returning with the film also returning to Las Vegas for part of it.

Remember when you said the Hangover 3 was going to be different Todd? Well…what happened?

Back when “The Hangover” first debuted, it was seen as fresh, hilarious and very good. Then, “The Hangover Part II” came out and…pretty much stunk. When Todd Phillips announced “The Hangover: Part III” came out he said we could all expect something different. Since then, it’s been announced the film is headed back to Las Vegas to film some of the movie, all the same characters appear to be back with Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Bradley Cooper all returning. And now, Ken Jeong, or Mr. Chow in the films, is also back for an expanded role. Hell, even Mike Tyson may return for another cameo. I don’t know about you, but this sounds exactly the same…again.

Its’ already been confirmed that “The Hangover: Part III” will shoot some scenes in Las Vegas once again. Now, there are reports that some of the film will be shot in Tijuana, Mexico.

Director Todd Phillips returns as will stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms. The plot has not been confirmed, but reports exist that it will deal with Alan getting sent to a mental institution with the rest of the Wolf Pack looking to bust him out.

Unless the trailer is really funny when it comes out, I’ll probably be skipping this one.
