“The Adventures of Tintin”, which was directed by Steven Spielberg (“Lincoln”) and produced by Peter Jackson (“The Hobbit”) was a modest success, grossing $370 million worldwide. The two are switching roles for the next film, which both are now saying will be out Christmas 2015. Rumors are that “Seven Crystal Balls” and “Prisoners of the Sun” will be the basis of the second film. The first film featured the voices of Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig and Simon Pegg.

BIG potential Star Wars news

This could be huge. J.J. Abrams is directing “Star Wars Episode VII”. Since then we’ve had rumors of a Han Solo film, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher returning and more. Here’s this for casting news. The site MarketSaw is reporting Simon Pegg will be in the new trilogy. Pegg of course is in “Star Trek Into Darkness”. Here’s the bigger news. The site said Alfonso Cuaron, who directed one of my favorite films of all time, “Children of Men” may be up for Episodes VIII and IX. All I can say is…heck yes.

Yep. According to Mark Wahlberg himself, he was almost in “Star Trek”. Who would he have played? In an interview, he said J.J. Abrams asked him to play Captain Kirk’s father, a role that went to Chris Hemsworth. Though he was only in the film at the start, it was a very memorable role, one that, along with ‘Thor”, helped kick start Hemsworth’s career.

Wahlberg said he couldn’t understand “the words of the dialogue or anything”.

I’m kind of glad he turned the role down. I love Wahlberg, but in roles like he had in “The Departed”, not for more emotional stuff.

Speaking of ST, “Star Trek Into Darkness” comes out this year and stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban and more.

J.J. Abrams other big science fiction franchise, “Star Trek”, is about to see ‘Star Trek Into Darkness” released in a couple months. The “Countdown to Darkness” comics are setting up the scene. The first issue introduced readers to Robert April, someone Trekkies should be familiar with. Now here’s some new revelations.

The first is that Kirk’s Enterprise was not the first Enterprise. In fact, Kirk says in the comic that April’s ship was decommissioned two years ago. Since he’s spent three years at the Academy, whatever happened to April, happened pretty recently.

The second revelation is that April has a connection to Carol Marcus. April said his first mate and best friend was Alex Marcus, Carol’s father. Sounds interesting! What do you guys think?

The sequel stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve and more.

Abrams talk “Star Trek”

With all the hoopla about “Star Wars Episode VII”, it’s easy to forget J.J. Abrams has a little movie called ‘Star Trek Into Darkness” coming out this year. Abrams recently spoke with MTV about the anticipated sequel.

Here’s what he had to say about the Klingons, who are in the sequel after being cut from the first film.

Their role in this is definitely that of adversary,” Abrams teased, “and you’ll see how that plays out.”

We know now that actress Alice Eve is playing Carol Marcus and will be a love interest to Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk, but Abrams said the film won’t slow down its pace for it.

“(Kirk) meets her fairly early on and again she plays a science officer, she’s someone who is a part of the adventure.  I think Chris is right, because it’s very much an action adventure movie and once that gets going it’s a very difficult thing to park the story. So it’s very difficult to do a romantic interlude. Her role is important, she wouldn’t be in the movie otherwise.”

The sequel stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller.

On the heels of “ParaNorman”, Focus Features announced “The Boxtrolls”, which will be based on  the novel “Here Be Monsters”. The real draw is the voice cast, which includes Ben Kingsley, Toni Collette, Elle Fanning, Jared Harris, Richard Ayoade, Tracy Morgan, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.

Here’s an official synopsis:

‘The Boxtrolls’ is a comedic fable that unfolds in Cheesebridge, a posh Victorian-era town obsessed with wealth, class, and the stinkiest of fine cheeses. Beneath its charming cobblestone streets dwell the Boxtrolls, foul monsters who crawl out of the sewers at night and steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. At least, that’s the legend residents have always believed.

In truth, the Boxtrolls are an underground cavern-dwelling community of quirky and lovable oddballs who wear recycled cardboard boxes the way turtles wear their shells. The Boxtrolls have raised an orphaned human boy, Eggs (Hempstead-Wright), since infancy as one of their dumpster-diving and mechanical junk-collecting own. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by villainous pest exterminator Archibald Snatcher (Kingsley), who is bent on eradicating them as his ticket to Cheesebridge society, the kindhearted band of tinkerers must turn to their adopted charge and adventurous rich girl Winnie (Fanning) to bridge two worlds amidst the winds of change and cheese.

Simon Pegg, one of the stars in “Star Trek Into Darkness” tweeted that a trailer for the film is hitting online this Thursday! Based on the poster it’s probably a safe bet that Benedict Cumberbatch will be the focus. But it’s unlikely we’ll know who he is. J.J.
