What do you think?

“Rodham”, the biopic about Hilary Clinton from director James Ponsoldt (“Smashed”) appears to have its titular character. Last week, it was reported that Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain, Reese Witherspoon and Amanda Seyfried  were up for the lead role. But now comes news that Carey Mulligan is in the lead to nab the role. Mulligan was last seen in “The Great Gatsby” and has films like “Drive” and “Shame” to her credit, so she’s a solid actress. What do you think about the casting choice?

A couple of years ago we had “W.” from Oliver Stone. Now we have another film about a current politician coming up, this time about Hillary Clinton with “Rodham”. Reports are that Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain, Reese Witherspoon and Amanda Seyfreid are up for the role. All four have had roles playing real life people, probably the most notable ones being Chastain in “Zero Dark Thirty” and Witherspoon in “Walk the Line”. I’m not sure who I’d prefer to see star. What about you?

Paul Thomas Anderson’s (“The Master) next film is shaping up. “Inherent Vice”, an adaptation of the novel wit the same name already stars Joaquin Phoenix, Benicio Del Toro and Owen Wilson. Now Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone (“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”) and Martin Short have joined the cast. This is quickly turning out to look like one of the most intriguing casts I’ve seen put together in a little while.

James Mangold has a big movie coming out this summer in “The Wolverine” starring Hugh Jackman. But next he’s going to reunite with one of his “Walk the Line” stars in a film called “Three Little Words” based on a memoir of the same name. Reese Witherspoon is starring as a social worker in the story that (From Comingsoon.net) follows: a young Florida girl who entered the child welfare system when she was four and establishes a relationship with a volunteer (Witherspoon) who discovers her there nine years later. Witherspoon’s character decides to try to find the girl’s biological mother and convince her to give up parental rights to allow the teen a new and better life.

Witehrspoon is also said to be starring in “Passengers” with Keanu Reeves.

At one point, the film “Big Eyes”, which is about artists Walter and Margaret Keane, whose paintings depicting women and children with wide eyes, was set to star Ryan Reynolds and Reese Witherspoon. Writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewsk penned the script and were going to direct. Now Tim Burton is stepping in to helm the film and Reynolds and Witherspoon are out with Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams in. Frankly, I like the new actors and it’ll be nice to see Burton take a break from doing mega budget blockbusters.

Halle Berry (“Monster’s Ball”), Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”), Nicole Kidman (“The Hours”) and Reese Witherspoon (“Walk the Line”) will all present at the Oscars on Feb. 24. They join Mark Wahlberg and Ted, from “The Avengers”: Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo; returning 2011 Oscar winners Jean Dujardin, Christopher Plummer, Octavia Spencer and Meryl Streep;Richard Gere, Queen Latifah, Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones; special guests Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Charlize Theron; and performers Adele, Dame Shirley Bassey, Norah Jones and Barbra Streisand.

According to Forbes, that title goes to Eddie Murphy. Murphy has had a string of flops, including “A Thousand Words”, “Meet Dave” and “Tower  Heist”. The other names on the list include Katherine Heigl, Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock, Jack Black, Nicolas Cage, Adam Sandler, Denzel Washington, Ben Stiller and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Not a surprising list here. Frankly, I’m glad to see Heigl on this list, since pretty much the only hit she’s been in (“Knocked Up”) she’s made a point of bashing.

The film “Mud” got a lot of buzz at the Cannes film festival. Now, it’s finally been picked up as Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate hammer out the details. The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and Michael Shannon (“Man of Steel”). The film tells the story of two young boys living on the Mississippi who encounter a drifter with a sordid past.

I’m looking forward getting a chance to see this film!

Even though “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” failed  to deliver at the box office (no pun intended), Lionsgate is going ahead with another self help book: “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.”

Reese Witherspoon is set to star while director Bryan Buckley is set to make his feature length directing debut.
