“Pirates of the Caribbean 5” nabs director

Make that directors. “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” will see Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (“Kon-Tiki”) direct the next installment in the popular franchise. “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” didn’t do too well domestically but was a big international hit with Johnny Depp returning as Jack Sparrow. That film also starred Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane and Sam Claflin and earned more than $1 billion worldwide. Disney isn’t going to let this franchise die, so I guess get ready for more high seas adventures. Rob Marshall (“Chicago”) directed that one.

Hercules cast grows

Director Brett Ratner (“Rush Hour”, “X-Men: The Last Stand”) is making “Hercules”. The film is said to be a more “grounded” take on the character with Dwayne Johnson (“Fast and Furious 6”, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation”) starring. Now the film has added a few more actors to the cast. Ian McShane (“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”), John Hurt, Aksel Hennie, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes and Rebecca Ferguson are joining the film.

Report: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 to start filming this winter

The Film Stage is reporting that Disney is prepping “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” to begin filming in Puerto Rico this November. Johnny Depp will return, but director Rob Marshall, who helmed “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” will not. No other casting has been announced, though Terry Rossio is working on the script.

This seems a bit sudden and with no other casting announced, one has to assume Disney has a short list already in mind for the cast and director.
