With “Beauty and the Beast” setting the box office on fire, another Disney classic is getting the live action treatment. “Mulan” is scheduled to hit theaters in 2018 and director Niki Caro (“Whale Rider”) had some news to share.

In an interview with Moviefone, current plans for the film contain no songs. That’s right, “Mulan” may not be a musical. That means it may be making a man out of audiences in a different way than people remember.

Channing Tatum (“Magic Mike”) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (“Looper”) have worked together on “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” and “Stop-Loss”. You can add a third movie to that list, though this one will be far different. The two are set to star in a remake of “Guys & Dolls”, which is based on a Pulitzer Prize winning stage play. From Firstshowing.net: The story follows Nathan Detroit (Tatum) who bets his friend Sky Masterson (Gordon-Levitt) that he can’t get a wholesome female missionary to go to Havana with him. But what he doesn’t tell him is that the winnings from this bet would fund a floating craps game in a town full of gamblers during the 20s.

No word on a director or writer.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, the creator of some of Broadway’s best musicals like “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Cats” could be teaming up with…Tenacious D? Yep. Webber could be working with Jack Black on a “School of Rock” musical. Which I suppose makes sense given the musical nature of the film, which was directed by Richard Linklater. Webber said they may need to write original songs because getting the rights to some of the songs used, including songs by Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Pink Floyd, could be costly.
