“War for the Planet of the Apes” played much more like “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” than “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.”

The third film in the rebooted series brought in an estimated $56.5 million. That’s good enough for first place, but well below “Dawn,” which opened with $72.5 million.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” took second with $45.2 million.

“Need for Speed” has delayed its release date from Feb. 7 of next year to March 14. That might seem like a bad sign, but really it’s because “RoboCop” and “The Lego Movie”, which features the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Neeson, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie and Morgan Freeman moved up to that release date as well.

“Need for Speed” stars Aaron Paul as someone who has been set up for murder and takes to a cross country race for revenge. The film also stars Michael Keaton Kid Cudi (ugh), Dakota Johnson and Dominic Cooper. Scott Waugh (“Act of Valor”) is directing.

Alejando González Iñárritu’s “Birdman” keeps looking better and better. The comedy follows an actor who was in a big budget superhero film who decides to join a Broadway short. The film already includes Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis and Naomi Watts. Now you can add Edward Norton (who was in last year’s best comedy by far, “Moonrise Kingdom)  to the mix as an egotistical actor who threatens to derail the whole production. This sounds so amazing right now.

Alejando González Iñárritu, the director of the magnificent “21 Grams” and “Babel” is trying comedy with his upcoming film “Birdman”. The film, according to FirstShowing, is said to follows a former actor, who once played an iconic superhero, as he decides to take on a Broadway play based on a short story by Raymond Chandler in order to reclaim past glory.

And who will play this role? None other than Batman himself, Michael Keaton, who played the caped crusader in the Tim Burton films. The film also has  Emma Stone, Naomi Watts and Zach Galifianakis in it as well. This sounds like an amazing comedy. Can’t wait to see it.

Big video game movie news

Two bits of information regarding two high profile video game movies. First, Michael Keaton is joining “Need for Speed”.  He joins Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots, Dominic Cooper, Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malek, Harrison Gilbertson and Scott ‘Kid Cudi’ Mescudi.

According to Heat Vision, “the story tells of a local street-racer (Paul) who partners with a rich and arrogant business associate (Cooper), only to find himself framed by his colleague and sent to prison. After his stint in the joint, he joins a New York-to-Los Angeles race to get revenge. But when the ex-partner learns of the scheme, he puts a massive bounty on the racer’s head, forcing him to run a cross-country gauntlet of illegal racers in all manner of supercharged vehicles.

In other news, Fox will reboot “Hitman”. A shame since Timothy Olyphant is a great actor. He will be replaced by…Paul Walker. Oh boy.

It will be directed by Aleksander Bach who has directed commercials. This sounds like a real…winner?
