Critics may not have been in love with the film, but the Jackie Robinson biopic “42” performed well. The film opened at No. 1 earning $27.7 million, by far the highest opening for a baseball movie. And it received an A+ score from audiences, meaning it could have great legs. The film stars Chadwick Boseman, Harrison Ford, Nicole Beharie, Christopher Meloni, Andre Holland, Lucas Black, Hamish Linklater, Ryan Merriman and T.R. Knight,

“Scary Movie V” opened in second place with less than half the opening weekend of “Scary Movie 4”. Despite featuring Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan, the film opened to $15 million, even lower than Marlon Wayans “A Haunted House”.

A week after “Evil Dead” comes the return of the horror spoof comedy that started it all, “Scary Movie V”. And just in time for baseball season comes “42”. Which will come out on top?

Back in 2000, “Scary Movie” surprised a lot of people grossing more than $150 million. Fast forward to 2013 and spoof movies…frankly are worse in quality and, for studios, worse in box office receipts. Marlon Wayans (Formerly from the Scary Movie franchise) saw “A Haunted House” open to $18 million and finish with $40 million. “Scary Movie 5” has seen franchise vets like Anna Faris move on but Simon Rex is back and Ashley Tisdale is joining him. Plus there’s those appearances from Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan. Still, it’s tough to see this faring any better.

Opening weekend: $15-20 million

I’m surprised its being released now, but “42”, the story of Jackie Robinson hits theaters as well. It has Oscar bait written all over it, though reviews haven’t been that enthusiastic. “Moneyball”, which starred Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill, was very successful, opening to $19 million on its way to more than $75 million. But that was in the height of Oscar season. I’m not sure people will flock to see this one. Harrison Ford has been heavily prominent in marketing, but let’s face it, other than the universally hated “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, what’s the last hit he’s had?

Opening weekend: $10-15 million

Well, I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised. Lindsay Lohan will appear on Charlie Sheen’s TV series “Anger Management”. The appearance is to cross promote for the upcoming film “Scary Movie 5” which also has the pair appearing in the film. The series currently airs Thursdays on FX and co-stars Selma Blair, Shawnee Smith, Daniela Bobadilla, Barry Corbin, Michael Arden, Derek Richardson and Noureen DeWulf.

This is almost becoming a fun occurrence, guessing what oddball project James Franco is going to star, produce or direct in next. We already have the Lindsay Lohan/Franco biopic (sort of), “Oz: The Great and Powerful” and “As I Lay Dying” among others. Now, you can add “Homefront” to that list. The film also stars Jason Statham and Winona Ryder. Franco will play a meth kingpin while Statham will play an ex-DEA agent. I guess you can’t say his career is filled with type cast roles. He’s got an Oscar nomination for “127 Hours” appeared in multiple stoner comedies like “Your Highness”, been in mega blockbusters like “Spider-Man” and done the whole indie thing. I guess there’s not too much left for him to do right?

As if his biopic (kind of) of himself and Lindsay Lohan wasn’t weird enough, James Franco is set to reunite with Danny McBride for an adaptation of “As I Lay Dying”. The book has 15 different narrators. The film is also set to star Tim Blake Nelson. I have no idea what is going through Franco’s mind, but boy would I love to hear his conversations with his agent describing these projects. Franco, for the record, is also starring in Sam Raimi’s “Oz: The Great and Powerful”. It’s like Franco is doing a Nic Cage except more extreme. Think about that.

James Franco never  ceases to surprise me. From his great work to “127 Hours” to his … questionable work in “Your Highness” Franco continues to do everything from “Pineapple Express” to “Spider-Man”. And now, apparently he might be doing a biopic of Lindsay Lohan. An advertisement called for  “James Franco types” and “Lindsay Lohan types” of very specific ages– 13, 21, 30, 45 and 60. All that is known officially about the project is the film will examine the lives of two Hollywood celebrities. I’m no expert, but I think it’s safe to say it’s Franco and Lohan.

Now, Lohan in previous interviews said that she and Franco are actually really good friends and even wished she could be cast in Sam Raimi’s “Oz Great and Powerful” starring Franco.

Oh Terry Crews. From “The Expendables” to plans to coming back to “The Newsroom” in season 2 and now you join this? Crews has joined the cast of “Scary Movie 5” which has the … um … “star” studded cast of Ashley Tisdale, Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen.  What are you thinking?
