Movie about “tag” coming

We’ve all played the game of tag, right? We all try to avoid being “it”. Now Will Ferrell and Jack Black are set to star in a film about the famous game called “Tag Brothers”. The film is based on a true story about (From Firstshowing.net): A group of former classmates from Washington who have a long-running, nationwide game of tag that happens throughout the entire month of February. The group of friends is now in their 40s, and try to balance their professional and personal lives while trying to avoid being “it” in a game that has them breaking into each other’s offices and homes.

This film sounds…a little ridiculous though I suppose that’s the point.

This is a little surprising. “Kung Fu Panda 2” was a disappointment at the box office. But that isn’t stopping DreamWorks from moving up “Kung Fu Panda 3” to Dec. 23, 2015. Original voice cast Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu and David Cross are expected to be back. And now reports are that Bryan Cranston, Mads Mikkelsen and Rebel Wilson are joining them. The second film’s director is back, which worries me. The second film played out like a less funny rehash of the first film, kind of like “The Hangover Part II”.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, the creator of some of Broadway’s best musicals like “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Cats” could be teaming up with…Tenacious D? Yep. Webber could be working with Jack Black on a “School of Rock” musical. Which I suppose makes sense given the musical nature of the film, which was directed by Richard Linklater. Webber said they may need to write original songs because getting the rights to some of the songs used, including songs by Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Pink Floyd, could be costly.

Most overrated film of 2012?

Readers of the LA Times voted Joss Whedon’es mega-blockbuster “The Avengers” as the most overrated film of 2012, gathering 85%  of the vote. It’s important to note that 2,600 people voted, so it’s not too big of a sample size. Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” came in at second with 5% of the vote. “Bernie”, starring Jack Black, was voted the most under appreciated film of 2012.

According to Forbes, that title goes to Eddie Murphy. Murphy has had a string of flops, including “A Thousand Words”, “Meet Dave” and “Tower  Heist”. The other names on the list include Katherine Heigl, Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock, Jack Black, Nicolas Cage, Adam Sandler, Denzel Washington, Ben Stiller and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Not a surprising list here. Frankly, I’m glad to see Heigl on this list, since pretty much the only hit she’s been in (“Knocked Up”) she’s made a point of bashing.
