Terminator 6 filming soon?

The Terminator franchise has struggled as of late. From “Terminator Salvation” with Christian Bale and Sam Worthington to “Terminator Genisys” with Arnold and Jai Courtney, the film series has seemed to hit a rough patch as of late.

That won’t stop another film from being filmed.

Arnold Schwarzenegger said in an interview with The Playlist that the movie will begin filming next March with a “Conan” film to follow.

James Cameron is back on board the series, so hopefully this one will turn out better!

After being introduced so spectacularly to the world in “Terminator: Salvation”, “Avatar” and “Clash of the Titans”, Sam Worthington has continued to mix high budget films with low budget films. He’s done films like “Texas Killing Fields” and “Man on a Ledge”. Now he’s headed to the Civil War as he joins the film “The Keeping Room” from Daniel Barber (“Harry Brown”). Worthington will play a soldier who discovers a group of women left to fend for themselves. The film also stars Brit Marling Hailee Steinfeld and Nicole Beharie.

In a very short amount of time, Zoe Saldana has had quite the run. Her roles in “Star Trek” and the upcoming ‘Star Trek Into Darkness” is making her a household name. She starred in a little film called “Avatar” from James Cameron. Despite some missteps, I’m looking at you “Colombiana”, “The Words” and the vastly underrated “The Losers”, she’s been able to keep her hot streak going. Now she joins Chris Pratt as Star-Lord and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer in “Guardians of the Galaxy”. She’ll play Gamora, a sword wielding green humanoid. James Gunn is helming the big budget adaptation.

All of a sudden, “A Million Ways to Die in the West” is one of my most anticipated comedies. From Seth MacFarlane (“Ted”) comes the western that he will star in and direct. Charlize Theron and Amanda Seyfried are in. Now Liam Neeson (“The Grey”, “Taken 2”) and Giovanni Ribisi (“Avatar”) have joined the cast as well. This looks like this one could be a classic!

Let’s give Robert Stromberg a lot of credit. Through his career, he’s worked with James Cameron, Tim Burton and Paul Thomas Anderson, not a bad group of guys if you’re trying to pick up some tips for directing. Now, it looks as though Stromberg is going to have an opportunity to become Hollywood’s next big director. Stromberg is already working on “Maleficent”, starring Angelina Jolie. Disney is betting a lot on Stromberg for this film, which tells the story of the iconic evil queen seen in “Sleeping Beauty”. Now, reports are that he is choosing his next project, “Safari” in what is described as “Avatar” meets “Jurassic Park”. Both projects will be high profile and big budget projects. And, both carry a ton of risk.

Having two expected blockbusters as your first directing credits can be good. It gets your name out there. But, if they bomb well…just ask Taylor Kitsch how “John Carter” and “Battleship” worked out for him. One of those productions was a Disney production and the other an expected blockbuster, just like the two projects Stromberg is working on. If the films are good and do well at the box office, Stromberg has it made. But, even if the films are well received but bomb financially, Stromberg’s name likely won’t be at the top of any high profile project’s list. The bad news is “Maleficent” isn’t coming until 2014 so we’ll have to wait a while. But, Stromberg should tread carefully. Because, having two major films as your coming out party can back fire.

It’s zombies vs. animated sea creatures as “Resident Evil: Retribution” and “Finding Nemo 3D” aim for the top spot.

This one will go to RE. Milla Jovovich is joined by series stars Michelle Rodriguez (“Avatar”, “Fast and Furious”) and Sienna Guillory. The previous film earned more than $230 million internationally, an impressive total. It’s made for international audiences, with the tag line “Evil Goes Global”. But, it will have limited appeal and open within range of the other entries.

Opening weekend: $25-27 million

Total box office gross: $65-70 million

It was this time last year that “The Lion King” earned more than $30 million on its way to $94 million. “Finding Nemo” is the most well attended Pixar film ever. So, it should be a smash right? Except, it’s hard to argue that it’d have more fans than “Beauty and the Beast” and that film only opened to $17.8 million earlier this year. And, “Titanic”, the highest grossing re-release of 2012 earned just $57.9 million. Not to mention, this film came out less than a decade ago and most families probably already own the film.

Opening weekend: $18-20 million

Total box office gross: $45-50 million

In a recent interview, James Cameron (“Avatar”, “Titanic”) talked about the “Jurassic Park” he would have made:

“I’d have gone further. Nastier, much nastier… [M]ine would have been ‘Aliens’ with dinosaurs.”

Cameron said Steven Spielberg beat him at securing the rights by a few hours. However, Cameron said after seeing the film, he thought Spielberg’s version was the right version to be made.

With news that “Avatar 2 and 3” will shoot back-to-back, there has been some skepticism. In a recent interview with the L.A. Times, James Cameron had this to say about the films, which will likely star Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana again.

“It’s a little bit of a daunting writing task because it’s two scripts and they’ve both gotta be done at the same time. I’m writing it as separate stories that have an overall arc inclusive of the first film. I don’t want to suffer from the ‘Matrix 2′ problem, where it just ends, like, what the hell? It’s gotta end. There’s gotta be a sense of conclusion, but also a sense that the journey will continue, and that’s a fine line.”

I actually liked “The Matrix: Reloaded” and “The Matrix: Revolutions”. But, I mean, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” did the same thing. Anyways, we’ll see if Cameron can avoid this pitfall.

Gina Carano is looking to become an action movie star. After starring in the Steven Soderbergh film “Haywire” with Channing Tatum and Michael Fassbender, Carano signed on for the action film “In The Blood”, in which she plays a wife who is bent on revenge after her husband disappears in the Caribbean (So, basically “Taken” with a woman). Now, Stephen Lang and Danny Trejo have signed on. Lang (“Avatar”) will play Carano’ father and Trejo will play the villain, setting up what sounds like would be one heck of an entertaining final fight scene.

It sounds entertaining, but the writers, James Robert Johnston and Bennett Yellin, are responsible for “Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead” and director John Stockwell’s credits include “Blue Crush” and “Into the Blue”.

He’s already set to star in “Breacher” with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, Sam Worthington (“Avatar”) is set to star in an adaptation of “The Riders”. Here’s the official book synopsis:

After traveling through Europe for two years, Scully and his wife Jennifer wind up in Ireland, and on a mystical whim of Jennifer’s, buy an old farmhouse which stands in the shadow of a castle. While Scully spends weeks alone renovating the old house, Jennifer returns to Australia to liquidate their assets. When Scully arrives at Shannon Airport to pick up Jennifer and their seven-year-old daughter, Billie, it is Billie who emerges — alone. There is no note, no explanation, not so much as a word from Jennifer, and the shock has left Billie speechless. In that instant, Scully’s life falls to pieces.

Timothy Spall and Charles Dance are also set to star.
