Diana Nyad, who was attempting to become the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage, gave up the dream and abandoned her swim. Due to weather, causing ocean swells, shoulder pain and asthma she decided to stop the swim at about the half way point.

It’s too bad she didn’t make it. She dedicated years of her life, and it took a lot of negotiating for Cuba to even allow her to try. She said she won’t try again, which I think is also a shame. That’s a  a lot of work and a lot of support by a lot of people for her to just give up.

Nevada sophomore diver Grace Huang will be competing at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai July 16-24. Huang, who will be representing Taiwan during the event, will be competing for a spot on Taiwan’s Olympic team for the next Summer Olympics.
