I’ m not entirely sure why anyone thinks this would be a good idea. For the record, Guy Ritchie’s reboot of “Sherlock Holmes” starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law were mildly entertaining, but far from classics. Now David Goyer, who wrote “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises” as well as the upcoming “Man of Steel” will direct a reboot of “The Count of Monte Cristo”. He didn’t write the script. Michael Robert Johnson, who wrote the upcoming “Pompeii” (doesn’t exactly inspire confidence) wrote the script and is said to take a more “graphic novel” approach and the buzz is that this will be like a 19th century Batman.

This doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. But I suppose it could turn out well.
